Mark Your Calendar - August 9 & 10, 2013
MIDDLEBURY, IN - As the title suggests, the lead female characters in this moving dramatic performance can be as delicate as magnolias but can also turn on a dime and be as tough as steel.
Directed by Kevin Eyer, the action of the play takes place in Truvy's Beauty Salon, which is part of her home. There are six female characters who appear on stage and all the other characters who appear in the popular film version (starring Dolly Parton, Sally Field & Julia Roberts) are referred to in the play dialogue.
Join us for this memorable performance that is based on a fictional tight-knit southern community. You'll be introduced to Annelle, a recent beauty school graduate who is hired by Truvy to work in her salon. M'Lynn, matriarch of the group, is helping her daughter, Shelby, prepare for her upcoming wedding. They'll be joined in the salon by Ouiser, a grouchy two-time widow and Clairee, a cheerful widow who enjoys taking cracks at Ouiser whenever possible. Watch, laugh, listen and enjoy as these women come together to prepare for Shelby's wedding day and as time passes, births and deaths that impact each of their lives. The comedy-drama, written by Robert Harling, is based on his experience with the death of his sister.
Three different performance times will be offered over two days; Friday, August 9th (7pm) and Saturday, August 10th (2pm and 7pm). The productions will be held at Essenhaus Heritage Hall located directly across Wayne Street from the main Essenhaus Campus.
